What’s Changed in MEGA MILLIONS®?

Starting April 5, 2025, MEGA MILLIONS® introduced a fresh set of changes aimed at improving the game for players across the country. Here’s what’s new:

• Better odds of winning the jackpot
• A built-in multiplier on every play (up to 10x is included automatically)
• Higher starting jackpots
• Faster-growing jackpots
• Updated ticket price of $5 per play

These changes are the first significant updates to the game in over two decades and are now live across West Virginia Lottery’s online and retail platforms.

Playing the updated MEGA MILLIONS® in West Virginia

To play MEGA MILLIONS®, you can either visit a licensed retailer or use the West Virginia Lottery’s official website or mobile app. The process is still simple:

1. Pick five main numbers from one to 70
2. Choose one Mega Ball number from one to 25
3. Submit your play for $5 per ticket, which now includes the automatic multiplier

Tickets are available up to 26 draws in advance, and the auto-renewal option is back for if you want to opt for recurring play.

The built-in multiplier

One of the standout updates is the automatic inclusion of a multiplier on every ticket. The multiplier has the potential to boost non-jackpot prizes by two to ten times, including up to $10 million for matching all five white balls. This change removes the need to opt-in separately and makes gameplay simpler while still boosting potential outcomes.

What to know about the ticket price

The new $5 ticket price reflects the added value brought by the built-in multiplier and improved prize structure.

This is only the second ticket price increase since MEGA MILLIONS® launched.

How to check results and manage your play

After each draw, results are posted on the West Virginia Lottery website and app. You can log in to your account to view past tickets, manage auto-renewals, and securely check for any prizes. Drawings happen every Tuesday and Friday.

If you win a prize, clear instructions will be provided for claiming. Smaller amounts will be credited to your account directly and larger amounts may requires additional steps and in-person collection.

Accessing Second Chance opportunities

Alongside the April 2025 updates, MEGA MILLIONS® now includes a Second Chance promotion for West Virginia players. For every $5 spent, you get one entry into a drawing with over $350,000 in cash prizes available. These include top prizes of $100,000 and $50,000.
